Meet the Edmondsons

Pioneers in snorkelling and sailing to the Great Barrier Reef, Sailaway first started operating in 1985 to Low Isles, one of the first places in the world where a year long survey and coral research was conducted in 1928 by a team of British and Australian scientists on a geographic expedition.

Sailaway is independently owned and operated by local Port Douglas couple Steve and Katrina Edmondson, who have over 30 years of experience in Marine Tourism. They share their passion for the Great Barrier Reef and invite visitors on board their luxury sailing catamarans for a day of snorkelling and sailing.

Steve has a history in Kenya of operating diving and sailing expeditions to remote and exotic locations of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, while Katrina is a long time local of Port Douglas and was actively involved in managing the family dive and snorkel business Poseidon.

Sailaway Reef & Island Tours is based in the Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina, with a reservations check in desk and tropical Low Isles Lounge.

Reef, island and sailing activity is managed by the dedicated Tour Sales Consultants in the Sailaway office, who will assist you with your booking and check in’s, and help you select the right Sailaway tour for you.

Open 7 days a week, our experienced tour desk staff are readily available for you to ask questions regarding the weather and suitability of each Sailaway experience.

Steve and Katrina continue to strive for excellence and this is evident in the day to day running of the business, attention to detail and the company philosophy of The finest and best of all things considered.

They love the challenge of developing innovative new products in a continually changing environment. Leaders in Eco Tourism, they are passionate about conservation and protecting our fragile environment.

Sensory Overload

“Sensory Overload”: Of the senses, in excess, to experience the ultimate thrill of sensation, to escape into a world of adventure and discovery; to leave civilisation and relax amongst natures’ artforms at their most beautiful; to plunge into warm aquamarine seas; to gaze on the magnificence of a rich living coral reef; to witness the dazzling spectrum of fish life; to hear the sound of another world; another dimension; to sense the joy of friendship; to find a new awareness of the important things in life; to feel the energy of freedom.
